18 hours of Ogden

= the hardest race of my life

since i can't move my body due to soreness and extreme tiredness i thought i would post about the race we did this weekend.

we participated in the first R-scape 18 hours of Ogden relay race. It is a relay race where each team member completes one loop and when you've gone through the whole team…you start again…the goal is to run as many laps as you can in 18 hours…the lap is 6.2 miles and the first 3 miles are pretty brutal…they are mostly up hill and getting to the peak can be exhausting….the other challenges were running in the dark with only a head lamp for light and trying not to sprain your ankle, trying not to get lost, and trying not to die from heat exhaustion when running your third lap at noon…..

our team was AWESOME…my brother was the first runner and he came in 4th on the first lap….which helps us to be one of the lead teams…we were one of a few teams that completed 18 laps (two teams ahead of us finished like 24…they were amazing)…we won first place for the family division..

it was honestly the hardest thing i’ve ever done physically…but amazing…i had not even run 6 miles since my half marathon in june and hadn’t even really done 3 miles of…so it amazes me what you can get your body to do and how your spirit and will can be so much stronger….i ran at 10 pm, 4:30 am and then 11 am….the 4:30 one was the best…i was scared of being in the mountain alone so i stuck with one of my co-workers for the most of the loop and it kicked my trash…but was so fun to work my body so hard

it was such a fun experience and i was so proud of my husband for rocking it!! he has pushed through injury after injury and hasn’t given up despite those injuires..he’s an awesome runner.

after finishing things like that i can’t help but feel so grateful for my life and for the amazing things i get to experience…accomplishing something like this does something for you that words can’t really explain…
